SCCC students receive El Rancho Supermercado scholarships

LIBERAL, Kan. – El Rancho Supermercado has awarded five, individual $1,000 scholarships to Seward County Community College.

SCCC students Melissa Gonzalez Torres, Natalie Portillo, Maria Jauregui, Monserrath Castanon Rayo and Jorge Munoz were each presented with a $1,000 scholarship in January.

SCCC Chief Development Officer Kyle Woodrow was grateful for the supermarket’s donation and its interest in helping those in the community with their academic future.

“We are very pleased to award the El Rancho Supermercado scholarships to our students this semester,” Woodrow said. “We are appreciative of El Rancho Supermercado’s generous scholarship donation. The scholarships will provide an incredible opportunity for someone who might not have otherwise considered college an option, giving them the ability to further their education.”

The Dallas-based supermarket chose Liberal for the site of its first store in Kansas, opening last August, and has already shown strong community support by providing scholarships to the school districts as well as giveaways, including backpacks and school supplies.
