June 1 deadline approaches for Cosmetology program

SCCC Cosmetology programStudents who plan to enroll in the Seward County Community College Cosmetology program in fall 2018 have a few weeks left to complete the application process, said program coordinator and instructor Sheila Scheib.

“We are still accepting applications for the program, and they’re due June 1,” she said. Students who have questions about the program’s duration, cost, and requirements can call the cosmetology department at 620-417-1359.

Scheib said the recent cohort of graduates can attest to the variety of programming and educational opportunities at SCCC Cosmetology.

“We really stretch them, and provide all kinds of enhancement speakers and activities,” she said. “Nearly every month, we bring in a graduate who started a business, or one of our own division instructors to share information about other aspects of entrepreneurship, like accounting, marketing, bookkeeping, and so on.”
During the most recent year, Scheib and her fellow instructors, Denice Paden, Tina Ward, and Amanda Schwab, brought in vendor and professional workshops to address nail arts, quick makeovers, skin care and more. Next year, she said, “We’re hoping to get a professional in to do some instruction on eyelash extension work.”

Students who are interested in the one-year certificate program must apply both to the college through the admissions department, and to the cosmetology program itself.
