End-of-semester events fill the calendar at Seward County Community College this week. Final exams for day classes at Seward County Community College begin Wednesday and run through Friday; evening class exams have already begun and will wrap up Tuesday.

As an added benefit to students cramming for final exams, the SCCC Library will be open until midnight during Finals Week, beginning Monday, May 7, and continuing through Thursday.

The SCCC executive team will prepare and serve the traditional “Moonlight Finals Breakfast” to all students, from 8:30 to 10 p.m. The event, which provides a last-minute boost of energy to weary students, is always popular, said Vice President of Student Services Celeste Donovan.

“We know students are sometimes flagging in their energy and spirits at this point in the semester,” she said. “It’s the very end, and they are tired. The Moonlight Finals Breakfast is a chance for us to support them and offer a word of encouragement as they go through the line.”

Cafeteria meals will continue on the normal schedule through Friday dinner, after which the dining hall will close at 7 p.m. and reopen for lunches only on May 28, Monday through Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For students who have rented books, or wish to sell select textbooks back to the Saints Bookstore, end-of-semester “Book Buyback” begins on Wednesday. Rentals are due back no later than closing time, 4:45 p.m., May 11. Early returns will also be accepted. Non-returned rentals assess a $25 late fee plus the replacement cost as noted on the rental agreement. All outstanding balances will be incorporated into the student’s account at the business office, which reminds students that transcripts for transfer or for official diploma documentation cannot be released until the total balance is paid.

Summer hours at the college also go into effect beginning Monday, May 14, and running through July 27. As an energy- and cost-saving measure, the college will be open at 7 a.m. through 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Campus will be closed on Fridays.
