Spring semester classes begin Jan. 12, more sessions to come

LIBERAL, Kan. — January 12 marks the first official day of the Seward County Community College Spring 2026 semester, with students on campus and classes in session. However, it’s only the first of multiple “first day of class” meetings over the next three months.

“SCCC continues to expand the options for our students with eight-week and twelve-week classes,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Luke Dowell. “Some students have schedules that just don’t allow them to jump in at the very beginning of January, and they can enroll for sessions that start Feb. 9, March 9, and even March 23.” Many of the late-start classes are hybrid or fully online, offering an additional layer of flexibility.

“Our Saints Anywhere online platform offers what we call asynchronous courses — the student can access lecture and presentation recordings at whatever time works for them, view on-demand instruction, and complete assignments and communicate with instructors through the Canvas student portal and email,” Dowell said. “We’re very focused on ensuring the level of instruction remains consistently high across the range of in-person and online coursework.”

In the brick-and-mortar classrooms at SCCC’s main campus, the Industrial Technology north campus and the West Campus located on north Western Ave., students will fill classrooms and labs starting Monday. Enrollment for regular-start classes remains open through Friday, Jan. 16; some enrollment is possible through Jan. 23, with an instructor’s approval.

“The beginning of a semester is an exciting time,” noted Dowell. “We’re glad to see students back on campus and are ready to do everything possible to support them as they aim for success.”
