Seward County Community College students can make academic progress during the holiday break thanks to Winter Session classes. Nine sections are open for enrollment now, with online course delivery running from Dec. 17 to Jan. 5.
The Winter Session classes are intense, said SCCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Luke Dowell.
“Students who enroll in these classes need to remember that we are offering the same material that would be covered over the course of an entire semester,” he said. “That means class every day, and homework every day throughout the holiday season.”
Dowell noted that the compressed courses provide a boost for students who need to maintain academic eligibility for athletics, or who want to carry a lighter schedule in the spring semester. One class serves as a “do-over” option for students who attempted Intermediate Algebra and were unsuccessful. The class requires instructor approval, because the fast pace is not suitable for first-time students.
“We offered Winter Session classes last year, and around 40 students enrolled and completed the work,” Dowell said. “We’re building on that success and hope to continue to provide options for our students.”
The classes slated for the 2024 Winter Session are:
• Digital Image Editing
• Medical Terminology
• OSHA 10
• Intermediate Algebra
• Elementary Statistics
• Art Appreciation
• Introduction to Business
• Business English
• Introduction to Computer Concepts & Applications
