LIBERAL, Kan. —Seward County Community College will host four in-person commencement ceremonies May 6-7. After two years of pandemic-restricted graduation events, “it’s so exciting to celebrate our students and their families with a traditional commencement,” said SCCC Registrar Alaina Rice. “This is my favorite day of the year, and it feels good to welcome parents and friends to campus to honor our graduates and their hard work.”
Nursing Capping & Pinning / Commencement will be at 6 p.m. May 6, in the SCCC Greenhouse gymnasium. Following the ceremony, program graduates, family, and friends can attend a reception upstairs in the Student Union conference rooms (SW229).
Commencement for Certificates & Associate of Applied Science degrees in: Agriculture, Auto Body Collision Repair, Automotive Technology, Business Administrative Technology, Computer Support Specialist, Corrosion Technology, Cosmetology, Diesel Technology, Drafting & Design Technology, HVAC, Medical Laboratory Technology, Natural Gas Compression Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technology, Welding Technology will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the SCCC Greenhouse gymnasium.
Commencement for the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of General Studies degrees will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the SCCC Greenhouse gymnasium.
Graduation ceremony for the Kansas State High School Diploma (Graduation Equivalency Diploma, or GED), will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in the SCCC Greenhouse gymnasium.
SCCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Luke Dowell said he looks forward to the first weekend in May all year.
“There aren’t many jobs in the world where you have a built-in celebration every year,” he said. “But at Seward, we do it every year at commencement, because our students’ success is our success. It’s a great feeling to see them accomplish their goals.”
President Brad Bennett commended the SCCC faculty, staff, and student body for reaching the mark after “two incredibly tough years,” noting that “I’m just so proud of everyone for showing up to class, following the mandates as they changed, and for the entire Saints family that kept our doors open through all the challenges.”
In keeping with the college’s current protocols, no masks are required at the ceremonies. Families and friends may attend as they wish, with no tickets required.
