Saints Promoting Education Careers will host an evening of holiday stories, crafts and snacks for children from kindergarten to third grade this Friday, Dec. 8 on the Seward County Community College campus. Each child attending will also receive a free book to take home. The event will take place in Room SU 114 E & W, upstairs in the Student Union from 5:45 to 7 p.m.
Members of SPEC are education majors, and “Tis the Season” gives them a chance to interact with elementary-age children in a fun environment as well as plan an educational activity, according to Janice Northerns, club advisor.
“It’s also a way for them to serve the community,” she said. “It’s important for club members to recognize that volunteer service will be a component of their adult lives.”
The event is free, but limited to the first 50 children who sign up. Parents can make reservations by contacting Northerns at (620) 417-1456 or emailing at janice.northens@sccc.edu. When making reservations include name, phone number and grade level of each child attending. The deadline for reservations is 4 p.m. Dec. 7.
