Elementary and middle-school students who want to learn to basics for computer coding have an opportunity to get started at a free event hosted by Seward County Community College Dec. 5 and 7.
The “Hour of Code” sessions are structured to give students in both age groups a quick and fun introduction to computer coding. Elementary students are scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Dec. 5, and middle school students from 6-7 p.m. Dec. 7. Both sessions will be in room AA109, in the Hobble Academic Building on the campus of SCCC, 1801 N. Kansas Ave. Instructors have room for 24 students in each group.
“We’re excited to get students started early, and to access their enthusiasm,” said SCCC’s Computer Information Systems instructor Ed Hall. “This event is completely free, and we’re hoping to have a good turnout.” If there’s enough interest among the young coders of the community, Hall said the department may offer follow-up sessions throughout the spring semester.
