Saints Summit offers high schoolers a view of the future

Business division plans preview day

There’s still time to attend the first-ever Saints Summit for high school juniors and seniors at Seward County Community College. Sponsored by the Agriculture, Business, and Personal Services division, the one-day event this Wednesday gives students a chance to preview the opportunities and courses of study at SCCC.

“This event gives students a chance to take a closer look at the possibilities here at Seward,” said Kim Zant, Dean of Agriculture, Business & Personal Services. “We encourage anyone in the area who will be graduating in May, as well as juniors in high school, to take the day to get on campus, take a tour, and meet personally with our instructors in these programs.” Zant noted that parents are included in the plan.

“We’ll have people from financial aid and admissions in a Q&A session for parents, so they can have their questions answered and get familiar with the process,” Zant said. Representatives from the Student Living Center and Student Services, including current SCCC students, will also take part in both sessions.

Saints Summit starts at 10:30 a.m. with registration and welcome by Dr. Todd Carter, Vice President of Academic Affairs, in the conference rooms in the upper level of the Student Union. At 11 a.m., panel sessions for parents and students continue, followed by lunch in the newly-renovated cafeteria, featuring a specialty bar, make-your-own deli sandwich, and daily specials.

The computer division will offer a drone demonstration at 1 p.m. in the Greenhouse, to give students a look at how the college is integrating new technology into the computer and agriculture programs. From 1:30 to 3 p.m., break-out sessions will give prospective students a chance to explore accounting, agriculture, business, computers, cosmetology, and take a complete tour of campus.

At 3 p.m., visitors are invited to experience life as a Saint, and watch the Saints’ baseball team take on Clarendon College at Brent Gould Field. Admission to the game is free.
