College announces holiday schedule

Seward County Community College is in the home stretch as the semester winds down. As students and faculty head into a week of Final Exams, campus is alternately hectic and silent.

“We see students under a lot of stress at this time of year, which is why we plan special activities to help them deal with the pressure,” said Vice President of Student Services Celeste Donovan. “Sometimes, it just helps to cuddle with a puppy, or refuel with food and friends.” During the week before finals, students have been able to get a free five-minute massage, pick up a quick meal of Walking Tacos from the Saints Bookstore, among other activities.

Administrators will step up to the griddle on Tuesday with the much-loved tradition, Moonlight Finals Breakfast. All students can enjoy a free meal of breakfast foods beginning at 8:30 p.m., till 10 p.m. in the Great Western Dining Cafeteria. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, pancakes, bacon, hash browns, and more.

Final exams for evening classes took place Dec. 4-7, and finals for day classes run from Dec. 11-13. Through Dec. 13, the Saints Bookstore will conduct its book buyback, and rental books can also be returned. Final grades are due from faculty by Dec. 15, and one week later, on Dec. 22, campus closes for winter break.

Wellness Center patrons will be glad to know the workout center will continue to operate with modified hours throughout the break. However, because of a maintenance issue with a broken pump in the swimming pool, the natatorium will remain closed until further notice. Wellness Center hours will be as follows: Dec. 18-22, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Dec. 23-26, closed; Dec. 27-29, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Dec. 30-Jan. 1, closed; Jan. 2, resumes normal hours, 6 a.m. -8 p.m.  For more information, call the Wellness Center at 620-417-1143.

Students who plan to take classes in Spring 2018 courses should enroll now at the Registrar’s Office in the Hobble Academic Building. Those who have an outstanding bill should stop by the Business Office before attempting to enroll. Some arrangements may be available for students whose accounts are in good standing.

Campus offices will reopen Jan. 2, with faculty work day and division meetings set for Jan. 5. Students may move back into the Student Living Center on Jan. 6, and classes begin Jan. 8 for both day and evening courses.
